Detailed Description
What does "99.99%" mean?
It means only 1 particle in every 10000 gets through. Turning efficiency into "how many get through" makes grades easier to compare:| Efficiency | 1 particle gets through per | Test particle size |
|---|---|---|
| 99.97% | About 1 in 3333 (3 in every 10000) | 0.3 μm |
| 99.99% | 1 in 10000 | 0.3 μm |
| 99.999% | 1 in 100000 | 0.3 μm or 0.1 μm |
| 99.9999% | 1 in 1000000 | 0.1 μm |
How much do depth and grade change pressure drop?
At the same 0.45 m/s face velocity, a 70 mm filter has lower pressure drop than a 50 mm one (about 123 Pa vs 137 Pa at 99.99%), because a deeper frame holds more folded paper. The higher the grade, the higher the pressure drop (70 mm goes from 123 Pa at 99.99% to 142 Pa at 99.9995%). Depth affects resistance and dust capacity; filtration efficiency is set by the grade of the paper. How depth and grade affect pressure drop

Standard airflow vs high airflow
The faster air moves through the same filter, the higher the pressure drop. So mini-pleat filters are used in two ways:| Use | Face velocity | Initial pressure drop (example) | Suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard airflow | 0.45 m/s | 99.99% 70 mm about 123 Pa | Cleanroom outlets and FFUs; lower fan energy, longer filter life |
| High airflow | About 0.73–0.85 m/s | About 250 Pa | Limited installation space; more air through fewer filters |
| Frame size (mm) | Rated airflow |
|---|---|
| 570×570 | 526 m³/h (8.8 CMM) |
| 570×1170 | 1080 m³/h (18 CMM) |
| 610×610 | 603 m³/h |
| 610×1220 | 1206 m³/h |
| Rated airflow (CMM) | Actual size (W x H) mm | Depth | Initial pressure drop (Pa) | Final pressure drop (Pa) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8.1 | 610 x 305 | 50 70 | 250 | 500 |
| 17.2 | 610 x 610 | 50 70 | 250 | 500 |
| 21.6 | 610 x 760 | 50 70 | 250 | 500 |
| 26.2 | 610 x 915 | 50 70 | 250 | 500 |
| 35.2 | 610 x 1220 | 50 70 | 250 | 500 |
| 14.9 | 570 x 570 | 50 70 | 250 | 500 |
| 31.4 | 570 x 1170 | 50 70 | 250 | 500 |
Frame, guards and gaskets
- Frame: anodized aluminum is the most common; choose stainless steel where the filter is wiped down with disinfectant or corrosion is a concern - Guard: a metal mesh over the filter paper that protects it from being punctured during installation; available on both faces, one face, or none - Gasket: goes on the face that is pressed against the mounting frame; double, inlet-side or outlet-side; for gel sealing see the gel-seal HEPA filter - Maximum continuous operating temperature 70°C; for higher temperatures use a high-temperature filterWhere it is used
- Replacement filters for FFUs (fan filter units): for example a 577×1177 FFU takes a 570×1170×70 mm filter - 2′×2′ T-bar ceiling outlets: commonly 595×595×50 mm - Cleanroom ceiling supply, clean benches and biosafety work stations - The inner filter of the room-side replaceable ceiling HEPA boxFrequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 50 mm and 70 mm? Does depth affect efficiency?
Efficiency is set by the grade of the filter paper, not by depth — both 50 mm and 70 mm come in 99.99%. Depth affects resistance and dust capacity: a deeper frame holds more folded paper, so at the same 0.45 m/s a 99.99% 70 mm filter is about 123 Pa and a 50 mm one about 137 Pa. When replacing a filter, match the depth of the old one, or it will not fit the frame or compress the gasket properly.
Should I choose a standard-airflow or a high-airflow mini-pleat?
It depends on whether you want to save energy or space. Standard airflow is rated at 0.45 m/s face velocity; a 99.99% 70 mm filter starts at about 123 Pa, so the fan works less and the filter lasts longer. High airflow pushes the same filter to about 0.73–0.85 m/s with an initial pressure drop of about 250 Pa, delivering more air through fewer filters at the cost of higher fan energy and more frequent changes. Ordinary cleanroom outlets and FFUs use standard airflow.
What do "double guard, double gasket" mean, and must the replacement match?
The "guard" is a protective metal mesh over the filter paper; double guard means both the inlet and outlet faces have one. The "gasket" is the seal; double gasket means both faces have one, and some filters have it only on the inlet or outlet face. The gasket must be on the face that is pressed against the mounting frame — on the wrong face, air leaks past. When ordering a replacement, match the frame, guards and gasket position of the original; if unsure, send us a photo of the original label and both faces.
Is 99.99% @0.3 μm equal to H13 or H14?
They cannot be converted directly. The EN 1822 classes H13 (≥ 99.95%) and H14 (≥ 99.995%) are overall efficiencies measured at the most penetrating particle size (MPPS), a different method from counting efficiency at 0.3 μm; our mini-pleat filters are rated at 0.3 μm (ULPA at 0.1 μm). If your specification calls for H13 or H14 with a classification report, please say so in your inquiry and we will select accordingly.
What information do you need to replace an FFU or ceiling outlet filter?
Measure the original filter frame width × height × depth in mm (a common mistake is writing 70 mm as 70 cm), plus efficiency, frame material, whether it has guards, which face the gasket is on, and the quantity. Typical examples: a 577×1177 FFU takes 570×1170×70 mm; a 2′×2′ T-bar ceiling outlet takes 595×595×50 mm. A photo of the original label is the most reliable.
