Ceiling HEPA Box Air Filter Module

Product Overview

A ceiling HEPA box is an all-in-one "supply diffuser + HEPA filter" unit that sits in a T-bar ceiling: conditioned air enters through a round duct collar on top, passes a 99.99% (@0.3 μm) glass-fiber HEPA filter, and is delivered into the room from below. Anodized aluminum frame with 12 mm external insulation; available as a fully disposable type (130 mm deep) or a room-side replaceable type (170 mm deep). The 600×1210 and 570×1170 mm sizes are rated at 17.5 CMM, the 600×600 and 570×570 mm sizes at 8.4 CMM, with 0.45 m/s filter face velocity and about 123 Pa initial pressure drop.

Detailed Description

A ceiling HEPA box (also called a HEPA supply module or HEPA diffuser) combines the supply outlet and the HEPA filter in one box that sits directly in a T-bar ceiling. Air from the air conditioning system enters through a round duct collar on top, passes through the HEPA filter inside, and comes out clean into the room below. Our standard product uses a 99.99% (@0.3 μm) glass-fiber HEPA filter, an anodized aluminum frame and 12 mm external insulation, in two types: fully disposable and room-side replaceable.

Disposable or replaceable: what is the difference?

The difference is how you change the filter once it is loaded. In the disposable type the filter and box are one piece and the whole unit is replaced; it is 130 mm deep. In the replaceable type the box stays in the ceiling and the 70 mm filter inside is removed from the room side; it is 170 mm deep.

Schematic, not to scale. Box depth excludes the collar and flexible duct above; an FFU with its own fan needs about 250 mm.

The replaceable box also has 2 PAO test ports, so a leak test can be run through them after installation.

How much air does one unit supply?

Frame size (mm)Rated airflowIn m³/hFilter face velocity
600×1210, 570×117017.5 CMM1050 m³/h0.45 m/s
600×600, 570×5708.4 CMM504 m³/h0.45 m/s
At rated airflow the initial pressure drop is about 12.5 mmH₂O (about 123 Pa). You can check the face velocity yourself: 17.5 CMM ÷ 60 ÷ (0.567 × 1.177 m² of filter area) ≈ 0.44 m/s, consistent with the stated 0.45 m/s. Duct collars come in 8″, 10″, 12″ and 14″, chosen by frame size and the ductwork on site; the collar size of each model is listed in the model table below.

Where it is used

- Ceiling air supply in cleanrooms: optoelectronics, semiconductors, electronics - Operating rooms and healthcare spaces (for negative-pressure isolation rooms, see the hospital HEPA box) - Clean areas in food, pharmaceutical, biotech and packaging plants
How much space is needed above the ceiling?

At minimum, room for the box itself: 130 mm for the disposable type and 170 mm for the replaceable type, plus space for the duct collar and the bend of the flexible duct — the actual height depends on how the ductwork runs on site. On an operating-room project we compared options: a fan filter unit (FFU) with its own fan needed 250 mm above the ceiling, so where the ceiling void is shallow a HEPA box fits more easily.

What filter goes into the replaceable type?

The 600×1210 and 570×1170 mm replaceable boxes take a 567×1177×70 mm inner filter; the 600×600 and 570×570 mm boxes take 567×567×70 mm. Both are 99.99% (@0.3 μm) glass-fiber HEPA. The box stays in the ceiling while the old filter is taken out from the room side and the new one put in; afterwards the 2 PAO test ports on the box can be used for a leak test.

How many units does a room need?

Number of units = supply airflow the room needs ÷ rated airflow per unit. Each unit is rated at 17.5 CMM (1050 m³/h, 600×1210 / 570×1170 mm) or 8.4 CMM (504 m³/h, 600×600 / 570×570 mm). How much supply air the room needs depends on its cleanliness class and air change rate, and is set by the HVAC design. A floor plan without dimensions or airflow is not enough to work it out — when asking for a quote, please give the room size and supply airflow, or the number of existing outlets and their opening size.

How do I choose between 8″, 10″, 12″ and 14″ duct collars?

It depends on the frame size and the ductwork on site; the aim is to keep the air from moving too fast in the collar. You can work it out: velocity in the collar = rated airflow ÷ collar cross-section. 17.5 CMM through a 12″ collar is about 4.0 m/s, through a 10″ collar about 5.8 m/s; 8.4 CMM through an 8″ collar is about 4.3 m/s. The smaller the collar, the higher the velocity, and the more noise and resistance. Where the ductwork is already in place, order the collar size that matches the existing flexible duct; the standard collar size of each model is listed in the model table.

Can you provide UL 900 or proof of original factory import?

UL 900 is a fire (flammability) performance standard for filters, not a filtration efficiency, so the two should be considered separately. Our standard product is a Taiwan-made aluminum-frame HEPA box. Some hospital specifications require the complete unit to be "imported in original factory condition, with factory and import certificates", or a stainless steel housing; the standard product does not meet that, and it needs a separate selection and quote — please send the specification with your inquiry.
