FFU Central Control System
Product Overview
A cleanroom routinely carries several hundred, sometimes more than a thousand, FFUs. The central control system links them to a monitoring host for zoned start-stop, central speed adjustment, fault alarms and historical logging, and can report to a PC for centralised viewing. The host continues to run independently when the PC is switched off, so round-the-clock monitoring is not interrupted.
Without central control, changing fan speed means climbing to the ceiling unit by unit. With it, shift-change turndown, weekend setback and shutting one zone for maintenance are all done on screen.

What central control actually saves
Energy is only part of it. Most cleanroom FFUs run at one speed all day, because nobody will send someone up a ladder several hundred times just to turn things down overnight. Central control turns turndown into a schedule setting, and dropping to low speed outside production hours makes a substantial difference over a year. More important is **fault visibility**. A single stalled FFU among several hundred in a ceiling is nearly impossible to notice by eye — it typically surfaces when cleanliness verification for that zone fails, by which point an unknown quantity of product has already been made. Central control raises an alarm naming the unit. Third is **verification and traceability**. Historical records turn "supply air in that zone was normal while this batch was made" into retrievable data rather than a verbal assurance. Both the communication and power cabling run in the ceiling void. Pulling them after the grid and plenum are complete raises difficulty and cost by several steps. In practice the cleanroom design stage has to settle how many zones there are, how many units per zone, where concentrators sit, where the control cabinet goes and how the upper PC is networked. Those decisions feed back into grid hanger positions and trunking layout. The common mistake is installing every FFU first and considering central control afterwards. At that point the choice is either reopening the ceiling or moving to a more expensive wireless solution.Selection References
