Air Shower
Product Overview
An air shower is installed at the cleanroom entrance to blow dust off personnel and the items they carry, while acting as an airlock between the clean and non-clean sides. Air filtered through the HEPA stage is discharged from rotatable nozzles in every direction; the dislodged particles then pass through the pre-filter and HEPA filter and recirculate back into the shower zone.
The doors are electrically interlocked so that both cannot open at once — this is what makes the airlock work; without it an air shower is just a corridor with fans. The standard enclosure is 1.2mm cold-rolled steel with electrostatic powder coating, and both doors and enclosure can be specified in stainless steel or aluminium profile to suit site conditions.

The airlock matters more than the blow-off
The function of an air shower that is most often overlooked is not dust removal but the airlock. Only when both doors are electrically interlocked and cannot open together does a sealed volume always separate the clean zone from the outside, so unfiltered air never sweeps straight in when a door opens. An air shower with the interlock removed, or routinely bypassed with an override key, is effectively a hole in the cleanroom wall. People skipping the shower cycle to save time is common, so the interlock has to be enforced in hardware rather than by procedure.Setting velocity and shower time
Nozzle discharge velocity is set between 20 and 25 m/s. That band provides enough shear to strip adhering particles from cleanroom garments without unbalancing or distressing the person inside. Shower time is adjustable from 0 to 99 seconds and in practice is usually set between 15 and 30 seconds. Too short and particles are not removed; too long and queues build at the entrance — peak throughput is often the real constraint, so the maximum number of people per shift should be worked out before selecting a size.How size relates to throughput
The three standard enclosures cover different traffic levels: W1300×D1000 suits 1 to 2 people, W1300×D1500 suits 2 to 4, and W1500×D1500 takes 5 or more. Nozzle count rises with enclosure size, from 12 to 22. When traffic exceeds what a single cabin can handle, the correct answer is a multi-person shower tunnel or cabins in parallel — not a shorter cycle.
