Activated Carbon Chemical Filters
Coconut Shell Granular Activated Carbon BS-GAC1100
Product Overview
Granular activated carbon produced from coconut shell by high-temperature steam activation. Iodine number ≥ 1100 mg/g, CTC adsorption ≥ 58%, ball pan hardness ≥ 95% — a well-developed micropore structure that resists attrition, suited to packed chemical filters, VOC exhaust scrubbers and adsorption beds of all kinds. Standard 30–60 mesh, supplied in bulk at 500 kg per bag.

Detailed Description
Key Features
- Coconut shell base, rich in micropores: steam activation of coconut shell concentrates pore size below 2 nm. For low-molecular-weight volatile organic compounds (VOCs), adsorption capacity per unit weight exceeds that of coal-based and wood-based carbon - Iodine number ≥ 1100 mg/g: the iodine number reflects total micropore volume and serves as a rough index of usable adsorption surface — the higher the figure, the more contaminant a given carbon charge will hold - Ball pan hardness ≥ 95%: resists attrition during filling and under sustained airflow, so bed pressure drop does not climb quickly over time and less carbon dust carries downstream - Ash ≤ 8%, moisture ≤ 5%: low impurity and water content means a higher share of the delivered weight is working carbon - Standard 30–60 mesh: coarser grades adsorb too slowly, finer grades drive pressure drop up sharply; 30–60 mesh is the usual balance point for gas-phase bedsApplications
- Refill carbon for packed (loose-fill) chemical filters and cylinder-type cartridges - VOC scrubbers on semiconductor and optoelectronics exhaust - Solvent vapour removal in coating, printing, rubber and electronic-chemical processes - Odour-removal sections in air handling units; laboratory fume exhaust - Residual chlorine and organics removal in water pre-treatmentSelection & Usage Notes
- Gas-phase duty is judged on iodine number and CTC; liquid-phase duty on methylene blue value. This grade is specified for gas-phase service - Bed sizing needs both empty bed contact time (EBCT) and face velocity — airflow alone is not enough to size a bed - Above 70% relative humidity, water molecules compete for adsorption sites and efficiency drops noticeably; dehumidify upstream where possible - For acid gases (H₂S, SO₂, HCl) or ammonia, plain physical adsorption is limited — use an impregnated grade instead - This is bulk media, supplied without frames or filter fabrication.
