질소 캐비닛은 개봉 후 다 쓰지 못한 전자 부품, 리플로우나 웨이브 솔더링을 기다리는 자재, 베이킹을 마친 소자, 그리고 반도체 웨이퍼와 정밀 가공 중의 반제품을 보관하는 데 씁니다. 캐비닛 안에 질소를 채워 산소와 수분을 밀어내어, 부품이 라인에 올라가기를 기다리는 동안 흡습하거나 산화하지 않게 합니다. 마이크로컴퓨터 제어 시스템이 캐비닛 안의 습도를 감시하여 설정값을 넘으면 자동으로 질소를 채우고 설정값에 도달하면 자동으로 멈춥니다. 계속 흘려보내는 방식이 아닙니다. 이것이 질소 비용의 관건입니다. 가스 절약 제어가 없는 캐비닛은 질소 비용이 설비 자체의 감가상각보다 훨씬 커집니다.

Nitrogen cabinet or dry cabinet

The two look almost identical; the difference is how moisture is removed. A **dry cabinet** uses a dehumidifying module — usually physical adsorption or thermoelectric cooling — to pull humidity down. No gas supply is needed, it runs from a wall socket, and running cost is low. It pulls down more slowly, and it deals only with moisture, not oxygen. A **nitrogen cabinet** replaces the humid air outright, dropping humidity quickly while also lowering oxygen concentration, so it prevents oxidation at the same time. The trade-off is a nitrogen supply and a refill cycle after every door opening. The rule of thumb: if only moisture is the risk — general electronic parts, bare PCBs — a dry cabinet is enough. A nitrogen cabinet is warranted when oxidation matters too: solder terminations, bare die, wafers after resist coating.

The gas-saving control is where the cost sits

A nitrogen cabinet without gas-saving control purges continuously at low flow, relying on positive pressure to keep ambient air out. It is simple, but nitrogen is consumed the whole time, and a year of that often costs more than the cabinet. With a microprocessor gas-saving unit the solenoid opens only when humidity rises past the set point and closes when it is met. In a well-sealed cabinet that may be only a handful of fills a day. So **cabinet tightness and gas-saving control have to be assessed together**: a leaky cabinet will refill constantly even with the control fitted. Neither alone is sufficient.
