Eco-Friendly Primary Air Filter (Without Expanded Metal Mesh)

Product Overview

The eco pre-filter (no expanded metal mesh) is a pre-filter made of white self-supporting media folded into pleats and fitted in a kraft board frame, with 35% efficiency. The media holds its pleats on its own, so no expanded metal mesh is needed on either face — the whole filter is just a paper frame and synthetic fiber, with no metal parts. Stock sizes are 12×24, 24×24 and 20×25 inch, 1″ or 2″ thick; there is also a 180×373×10 mm flat version with a paper frame.

Detailed Description

The eco pre-filter (no expanded metal mesh) is a pre-filter made by folding white synthetic-fiber filter fleece into rows of pleats and fitting it into a kraft board frame. Like a standard pleated pre-filter, it is installed at the very front of an air handling unit as the first filter, with 35% efficiency. The difference is that there is no expanded metal mesh on either face of the media — the whole filter is just a paper frame and filter fleece. It needs no metal mesh because it uses self-supporting media: the fleece holds its pleats on its own. We have 8 eco models, all with paper frames: 7 are pleated in 12×24, 24×24 and 20×25 inch, and 1 is a 180×373×10 mm flat version (the fleece is not pleated).

How is it different from a standard pleated pre-filter?

The difference is in how the pleats are held and in the frame. A standard filter has expanded metal mesh on both faces of the media to hold the pleats, and the frame can be paper or metal; the eco filter's self-supporting media holds itself, the frame is kraft board only, and there are no metal parts. Both are 35% efficiency.

Not to scale; does not show the actual pleat count. The standard filter relies on metal mesh on both faces to hold its pleats; the eco filter relies on the media itself and is just a paper frame and filter fleece.

What does "eco" mean here?

It means the materials are simple: the whole filter is a paper frame and synthetic fiber, with no metal parts, so there is no need to strip off metal mesh and sort it separately when disposing of it. Beyond that, we have no data showing it is recyclable, suitable for incineration or compliant with any particular environmental standard, so we do not claim it. A reminder: in Taiwan, used filters from businesses such as factories and hospitals are industrial waste under Article 2 of the Waste Disposal Act and must be handled under the rules for industrial waste, not as general waste.

What sizes are available?

Stock sizes are inch paper-frame filters: 12×24 and 24×24 inch in 1″ and 2″ thickness, and 20×25 inch in 2″. There is also a 180×373×10 mm flat version with a paper frame, where the fleece is not pleated. - 12×24 and 24×24 inch at 1″ thick have 13 pleats - Customers have asked for eco filters in sizes such as 16×20×1 and 16×25×1; these are not stock sizes, so please send the size and quantity for a quote - Rated airflow and pressure drop are provided per selection; please tell us the airflow of your air handling unit - For other non-standard sizes or a metal frame, see the pleated pre-filter (paper / metal frame)
What does "no expanded metal mesh" mean? Without the mesh, will the media collapse under airflow?

In a standard pleated pre-filter, expanded metal mesh on both faces of the media holds the pleats. The eco filter uses 150 g/m² white self-supporting fleece that holds its pleats on its own, so no mesh is needed, and the kraft board frame holds the edges. How much airflow it can take depends on selection; rated airflow and pressure drop are provided per selection, so please tell us the airflow of your air handling unit when ordering.

Can used eco filters go out with ordinary trash?

It depends on who is throwing them away. In Taiwan, used filters from businesses such as factories and hospitals are industrial waste under Article 2 of the Waste Disposal Act and must be handled under the rules for industrial waste, not as general waste. What the eco filter saves is disassembly: it is just a paper frame and synthetic fiber with no metal parts, so there is no metal mesh to strip off and separate first.

Do you have eco filters in 16×20×1 or 16×25×1?

They are not stock sizes, but customers have asked for them and we can quote. Stock sizes are 12×24 and 24×24 inch (1″ or 2″ thick) and 20×25 inch (2″ thick). Please send width × height × thickness and quantity, and we will confirm and reply.

How do I choose between the eco filter and a standard pleated pre-filter?

Both are 35% efficiency; the difference is construction and sizes. If your size is exactly 12×24, 24×24 or 20×25 inch and you want to skip stripping metal mesh at disposal, choose the eco filter. If you need a non-standard size or a metal frame such as galvanized steel or aluminum, choose the standard pleated pre-filter (paper / metal frame). When replacing, ordering the same size and thickness as the old filter is the safest choice.
