Detailed Description
How many layers at 1″, 2″ and 4″?
The most common builds are 3 layers at 1″, 7 layers at 2″ and 14 layers at 4″. More layers make a denser pack that catches more dust, but air also passes through less easily.Typical layer counts at 1″, 2″ and 4″ (side section)
Corrugated and flat mesh stacked alternately
Schematic, not to scale. Layer count can be specified: 1″ also comes with 2 or 5 layers, 2″ with 4, 5, 8 or 9.
Aluminum or stainless steel?
| Item | All-aluminum | All-stainless steel |
|---|---|---|
| Frame and mesh | Aluminum frame, aluminum mesh | Stainless frame, stainless mesh (commonly 16 mesh) |
| Common sheet thickness | 0.6 mm | 0.5 / 0.8 / 1.0 mm |
| Cleaning | Avoid strong alkaline degreasers: aluminum corrodes outside pH 4–9 | Ordinary cleaners are fine |
| Coastal, salt spray or chlorides | Not recommended | Choose SUS316 (contains molybdenum, more chloride-resistant than SUS304) |
| Actual use cases | Replacement filters for air handling units at an electronics plant, 24×24×1 | Printing plant 1150×630 with center stiffener; food plant 460×1020×45 stainless frame |
Unusual sizes are no problem
Of the 310 models we have made whose dimensions can be read, only 39 are standard sizes such as 12×24, 20×20, 20×24, 24×24 or 595×595; the other 87% or so are made to fit specific equipment. Common options: - Cross bars on both faces: stiffeners that keep the mesh from deforming - Center stiffener: an extra bar across the middle, for long, large panels - Handles: for pulling the filter out to wash it - L-joint: an oversized panel is split into two or three sections and joined on site; for example, a customer who wanted a single 5000×2000 panel — beyond our maximum size — received 1250×1000×45 sections instead - Drain holes: holes along the bottom edge where the filter is washed in place or exposed to moistureHow to clean it
Remove it, wash it with water, let it dry, then reinstall it. For all-aluminum filters, do not use strong alkaline degreasers, which break down aluminum's protective film. Note: this kind of mesh filter is not a kitchen hood grease filter. The US fire code NFPA 96 §6.1.3 does not allow mesh-type filters to be used as grease filters in commercial kitchens.Frequently Asked Questions
How many layers are there at 1″, 2″ and 4″? Can I specify the number?
Most common is 3 layers at 1″, 7 at 2″ and 14 at 4″, but you can specify it. Among our models, 1″ also comes with 2 or 5 layers and 2″ with 4, 5, 8 or 9. More layers catch more but add resistance; when replacing, ordering the same layer count as the old filter is safest — if unsure, send us a photo of its edge and we will count.
Can it be washed with water? What should I watch out for?
Yes — remove it, wash it with water, let it dry and reinstall it. For all-aluminum filters, avoid strong alkaline degreasers: aluminum's protective oxide film is only stable between pH 4 and 9, and strong alkalis corrode the mesh. Where filters are washed in place often, drain holes can be added along the bottom edge of the frame.
Can it be used as a grease filter in a restaurant kitchen hood?
Not recommended. This multi-layer mesh filter is a pre-filter for air conditioning and equipment intakes, not a hood grease baffle. The US fire code NFPA 96 §6.1.3 does not allow mesh-type filters to be used as grease filters in commercial kitchens; use a certified grease filter in the hood.
My size is very large. Can it be made as one piece?
An oversized single panel exceeds our maximum size and is hard to handle and wash, so we recommend splitting it into sections joined with L-joints. For example, a customer who wanted one 5000×2000 panel ended up with 1250×1000×45 sections. Long, large panels can get a center stiffener, and filters that are pulled out often for washing can have handles.
