The Philips MASTER LEDtube is a one-piece frosted glass tube with a smooth, seamless surface that can be wiped down like the extruded aluminium housing. The open version is standard practice in ISO 7–8 electronics and optoelectronics cleanrooms, and its advantage is that relamping only means twisting out the tube without removing the fixture. At Class 1000 (ISO 6) and tighter, in GMP areas that are wet-wiped or sprayed with disinfectant on a schedule, or in corridors where carts may strike the fixture, add the removable PC cover so the tube and contacts are enclosed. Note that plastic parts such as the PC cover and lampholders can be affected by sulfur compounds, petroleum-based solvents and some cleaning agents, so tell us which cleaners are used on site first.

Do not think of it as a one-for-one swap: this tube delivers about 30% less than the roughly 3070 lm of a 36 W fluorescent tube; what it saves is power and relamping visits. Use the lumen method: target illuminance × floor area ÷ (2100 lm × utilisation factor × maintenance factor). With a utilisation factor of 0.6 and a maintenance factor of 0.8, a 60 m² room at 500 lx needs about 30 four-foot single-tube fixtures. With single-tube fixtures in continuous rows on every 1200 mm grid line, each fixture covers about 1.44 m² and the ceiling tops out around 700 lx; above that, move to the twin-tube model. No. A 6500 K white LED has a strong blue peak near 450 nm that exposes photoresist, and resist suppliers typically require everything below 500 nm to be filtered out. In yellow-light areas fit an LED yellow tube or an amber filter sleeve over the tube; the fixture body stays the same. When choosing a yellow tube, ask the supplier for a log-scale spectrum, because many products still have side lobes at 420–450 nm that a linear spectrum plot does not reveal.
